Proposed Itinerary

Saturday, August 30
Depart for your overnight flights to Dubrovnik.

Sunday, September 1 – Dubrovnik – Orebić
Upon arrival in Dubrovnik airport, collect your luggage in the baggage claim area and meet your local tour guide who will escort you to the waiting motor coach. From here you will travel along the coast to the Pelješac Peninsula, a region famous for it’s wine and oysters. Here in Orebić you will have dinner and spend the night along the beautiful Adriatic seaside.

Monday, September 2 – Orebić – Badija Island September - After a restful night, you will have time for Mass, breakfast and morning prayers before taking the ferry to a small island off near Korcula. Badija Island located about a 15 minute water taxi ride from the Old Town of Korcula's harbor. Covering about one square kilometer, the island features the Franciscan Monastery, some nice beaches and swimming spots as well as good hiking paths through the pine and cypress trees to the top of the hill, where you can take in great views of the Adriatic Sea and the Croatian coastline. It is at the Franciscan Monastery, located here on the island, where you will be staying for the next 5 nights, and where Fr. Jozo Zovko will conduct his spiritual retreat. This amazing complex, built in the 14th & 15th centuries, consists of the church (Our Lady of Mercy), the cloisters, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, and the actual Monastery itself. Enjoy dinner and Mass tonight at the Monastery.

Tuesday-Friday, September 3-6  Spiritual Retreat with Fr Jozo
In 1981 Father Jozo Zovko OFM, was a parish priest at St. James Church in Medjugorje. He was away for the first 7 days of the apparitions, and upon his return, he initially did not believe the children. Years later in his homily he shared: " I wondered, ‘Why don't they (the children) listen to me?’ I never thought; ‘why don't I hear them?’ Then one day it happened; they came to the church and I went to the hill. The apparitions are a reality. I heard the voice in my heart. 'Go out. Protect the children.' The children needed my protection. So I went back to the church and took the children to the rectory. It was then, that Our Lady came much closer to my heart. The children said: 'Our Lady will come to the church' and our Lady came, blessing us all. God needs us. And without us, His flame cannot be released.” Because of a sermon he had given, which was seen as an insurrection against the Communist government, Father Jozo was arrested and sentenced to three and a half years of hard labor. This sentence was later commuted to eighteen months, and once released, pilgrims attended his packed church services in Tihaljina, and later in Siroki Brijeg. Pilgrims could not imagine going to Medjugorje without visiting Fr. Jozo Zovko, and being present for one of his tremendous healing prayer services. Here is the sample daily schedule while on the island.

Once there, you will have dinner and be introduced to your host family in who’s modern and comfortable house you will be staying for the next five nights.

Sunday-Wednesday, September 8-11 - Medjugorje During your stay, you will experience the beauty and peace of this simple village, and have the opportunity to share your faith with pilgrims from all over the world. Every day there will be transportation to take you to Mother’s Village, to attend a private mass.

Here are some of the other activities planned for the week:

Daily Masses: Each morning, at 10:00am, the group will assemble at St. James Church for Mass and the blessing of religious articles immediately following.

Climb Apparition Hill: Recite the Rosary while climbing the hill to the place where the visionaries first allegedly encountered Our Lady.

Climb Mt. Krizevac (Cross Mountain): In 1933, the villagers built a 30' high cross atop a mountain to commemorate Jesus' passion and death on the cross. Climb to the top, stopping 14 times along the way to rest and Pray the Stations of the Cross.

Apparitions: Join the villagers and fellow pilgrims in praying the Rosary in St. James Church at 5:00pm (6:00pm Daylight Savings Time), and stay for the alleged apparition of Our Lady to the visionaries at 5:40pm (6:40pm Daylight Savings Time). Stay for the Croatian Mass the Blessing of the Sick immediately following.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Our Lady has always called us to be close to Her Son. Join fellow pilgrims for Adoration on Tuesday and Saturday at the outside altar of St. James Church, and for Veneration of the Cross on Friday inside the church. Adoration is also available in the Chapel every afternoon.

Meetings with the Visionaries: Pending their availability, the guide will arrange meetings with the visionaries.

Visit to the Community of Cenacolo: Founded by the Sisters of Charity, Cenacolo is a community for young men and women who have lost their way in life, and are on the road to recovery. We will hear their inspirational words about their journeys back to Jesus Christ.

Prayer at the Statue of the Risen Christ: Pray at the bronze statue located on the grounds of St. James Church, and witness the droplets of water that miraculously seep out of Christ's right knee.
